Setting up Class Areas for Teachers

You are here:
Estimated reading time: 2 min

Before setting up your class areas you should familiarise yourself with the what’s what on the site from your perspective.

Once you have your login (provided by the school office), logged into the site and updated your profile, you have 4 things to do:

1. Write your Class Information Page

Think of this as a big display outside your class that parents can refer to. It’s not for news or updates (use the Class News Posts for that), but for basic information about how your class will run so that those involved (children, parents & carers and even new TAs)  may need to refer to throughout the year. Write it at the start of your school year, then refer to it as and when you need. Add things like Class rules, Timetable, Links to online learning sites or class apps. You can even point parents to helpful sites and videos that aid their children’s learning here.

Edit your Information Page. You can split the page up to suit using Subheadings and Horizontal Lines. Suggested content might include:

Welcome to our Class
 **Welcome message goes here**

Class Rules and Weekly Timetable
**You can remind everyone of class rules here. Also, tell parents when PE/Forest school/swimming etc happen**

Links to Online Resources
**Link to websites that you use regularly, like Mathletics or BBC Bitesize.**

Curriculum Planning
**Add your termly planning documents here**

NB If you don’t see an edit button on your page, ask the school office to set you as the author of the page

2. Write Your First Class News Post

You need at least one post displayed here when you launch the site. initially you’ll see a place-holding post (don’t edit this) write a new post that will then appear at the top of your class news feed.
If you have nothing else to say, I’d suggest writing a post welcoming visitors to your class area and pointing them towards your class information page and the subscription page as a pointer to finding things.

First Post Example:

“Welcome to Class 1. We’ll be adding regular updates to this area to allow you to share in our class experiences. Our Class rules, timetable and other useful information can be found on our Class Information Page.

If you would like to receive emails of school news from this website and occasional email bulletins from Class 1, you can subscribe to them here.”
