The best way to distribute video via the internet is by using YouTube.
YouTube allow is to add videos to pages and posts that give great seamless viewer experience and that look like they are part of our website.
Depending on how new your website is, there are two different ways of putting a YouTube video on a page or post. The newer sites simply require you to paste the URL (web address) of the YouTube video into the editor and it will then automatically show the video. If this doesn’t happen in your editor, then you need to follow the steps below (don’t worry, it’s not much harder!):
Using Embed Codes
Any YouTube videos can be embedded in the site simply by cutting and pasting an embed code (including your own school videos uploaded to your school YouTube account).
- Visit the video that you want to embed on YouTube
- Below the video player click the ‘Share’ link
- Next, click the ‘Embed’ link
- You should see 4 check (tick) boxes, if you can see them you may need to click a link that says ‘more’ to reveal them
- From those check boxes make sure that the one labelled ‘Show suggested videos when the video finishes‘ is NOT ticked
- Copy the YouTube embed code that’s in the box (it starts with “<iframe…” and ends with “…</iframe>”)
Go back over to the School Website
- Open the editor for a page/post/event in the usual way (either by adding new or editing existing)
- If you want to have any text preceding your video, write it in the edit box now and then position your cursor where you’d like the video to appear.
- Click on the grey right hand tab that says ‘Text’ (it’s currently on ‘visual’)
- Paste your YouTube embed code onto the page.
- Tab back to ‘Visual’
- You will see your video in the editor.
- Update and publish in the usual way (if it’s a new item, don’t forget your title and categories first!)
